Robert J. Strickland Memorial Park – known better to locals as “Hudson Beach” – only covers 6 acres … but it packs a lot of recreational value into a small space. With about 1,900 feet of total waterfront area, it is a favorite for swimming, dining with live music, kayaking, and boating. But the sunset views may be one of its biggest features.
A beachfront seawall and boardwalk provide plenty of access to the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Fishing from the shore is permitted. Or you can launch your own kayak or canoe from a convenient launch at the south end of the park. Motorboaters will find a paved boat ramp with ample trailer parking and launch facilities. A privately owned full-service marina with boat storage is available adjacent to the park property. Overnight parking is available at the boat ramp area for those who like to fish at night.
Picnic tables and several covered shelters are available on a first-come first-served basis. There is also a large two story pavilion that offers great views of the surrounding areas, including the beach and sunset over the Gulf. A marked swimming area and sand beach extending for 200 feet is located along the north side of the entrance road to the park. No lifeguard is on duty, so swim at your own risk. Public restrooms and a children’s playground are also available.
